Staying Healthy During the Holidays

Wow. This could be a heavy post.

BUT WE AIN’T GONNA LET THAT HAPPEN

I’m heckin sick and tired of allowing COVID-19 to control every aspect of my life. A few things I can control are my health (to a certain point) and my attitude. I choose positivity this season.

There is so much information to weed through. Which supplements should I take? Should I even take supplements? Vitamin C? Zinc? Vitamin D? What can I eat to prevent myself from getting COVID? Anything else? There is just too much unknown about this situation. Who do we trust and where do we get reliable information?

Here. Come here.

What do we know?

We know how to take care of our bodies. This may sound redundant and silly, but if this helps keep me safe and healthy, I think it’s worthy of repeating.

These are simple ways to support your immune system:

  1. Sleep.

  2. Exercise.

  3. Limit alcohol.

  4. Eat a bunch of colors.

  5. Drink water, damn it.

Some of these steps are especially difficult in this unprecedented and uncertain time cough cough such as limiting alcohol. But seriously. If we take these small steps in supporting our bodies in fighting disease, it could mean everything in the long run.

Unfortunately, there’s no secret “boost” for your immune system. It all begins with support in these 5 simple steps stated above. You need not waste money on “immune boosting” supplements, as these things cannot prevent you from contracting COVID or other infectious diseases such as the flu. Unless instructed by your doctor or dietitian, supplements may be unnecessary.

According to the NIH, there is insufficient evidence that suggests you should be supplementing with vitamin C, D, or zinc in non-critical illness or in prevention of contracting COVID-19.

However!!!

What you CAN do is eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, drink a buncha water, and go for a walk outside. Try to take your mind off of the state of the world for just a little bit.

Here are some things you can do to prevent COVID infection:

  1. Wear a mask.

  2. Stay home.

  3. Avoid crowds.

There are many situations you can’t control. For example, you can’t control what other people do or how they think, who you work with, or who you live with…

But, by using the steps stated above and the steps stated above the ones stated above, you can reduce your risk of contracting COVID-19 by supporting your immune system.

You belong here.
